Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande-Butera (/,a:ri'a:n@ 'gra:ndeI/ AR -ee-AH-n@ GRAHN-day;[note 1] born June 26 in 1993) is an American singer, songwriter and actress. Her unique usage of the whistle register as well as her four-octave voice range is well-respected by media and critics. Grande has received numerous awards throughout her career, including two Grammy Awards and one Brit Award. She also won three American Music Awards, three Billboard Music Awards and nine MTV Video Music Awards.
Grande began her music career when she was 15 years old during the 2008 Broadway musical 13. Her character of Cat Valentine on Nickelodeon's Victorious (2010-2013) and Sam & Cat (2013) was her first big hit. After watching YouTube videos of Grande singing, Republic Records signed Grande to their label in 2011. Grande's 1950s-doowop-influenced R&B and pop debut album"[2] Yours Truly (2013), reached the top 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Grande's voice and whistle register on the album drew immediate comparisons to Mariah Carey.
In her third and fourth studio albums My Everything (2014), and Dangerous Woman (2016), she continued exploring pop as well as R&B. My Everything was an experiment in EDM. Its singles "Problem", Break Free and "Bang Bang" were a global hit. Dangerous Woman was her debut album that reached the top of the charts in the UK. Sweetener (2018), and Thank U, Next (2019) was her fourth and fifth studio albums respectively, that featured trap music. Both albums were critically and commercially acclaimed. Sweetener received the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album. Thank U Next broke the record for largest streaming week for pop albums . It also was nominated for Album of the Year. The singles "Thank U, Next", "7 Rings", and "Break up with Your Girlfriend I'm Bored" helped make Grande the first solo artist to hold the top three spots on the Hot 100 simultaneously and the first female to be able to compete at the top of the UK Singles Chart. Grande beat the Hot 100 record for the highest number one debuts when she released Justin Bieber's collaboration in 2020 "Stuck with U" with Lady Gaga. The latter won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Grande expanded on trap with her sixth studio album Positions (2020) with the result that both the album's title track and the album's first single debuted at #1 in the UK. In 2021, she collaborated with The Weeknd on the remix of "Save Your Tears", earning her sixth US top-seller single.
